Dr. William H. FitzPatrick

Dr. FitzPatrick has been in private practice in Albuquerque all of his professional career. While he has been practicing podiatry for longer than he likes to remember, he still loves it. He has the experience from having been a podiatrist for 40+ years, but the enthusiasm of a younger person who loves his profession.

Dr. FitzPatrick did his undergraduate work at St. John Fisher College and the University of Rochester, both in Rochester, New York. He graduated from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York City, externed at New York’s Beth Israel and Gouverneur Hospitals, and completed a surgical residency at Civic Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He became Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery in 1976 and Pedorthics in 2008.

He is a supporter of UNM both through presidential Scholarships and contributions to individual departments. He is also active in local state and national professional societies and has served on New Mexico state boards and commissions under four governors. He was named Podiatrist of the Year in 2010 by the New Mexico Podiatry Association.

He has enjoyed raising and seeing the growth and development of his four children, all of whom have a graduate/professional degree. Over the years he has been active in 4-H with his children, and he continues to compete in dairy cattle shows.

In his spare time, Dr. FitzPatrick enjoys traveling, hiking, and reading. His dog Hewlett is a constant companion and makes certain that he’s on a daily walking program.

Dr. Bill enjoys showing dairy heifers at state fairs, traveling with his cat, Sid, and his dog, Hewlett, in his RV, and walking in the Albuquerque foothills with Hewlett.


Dr. Gay Gustafson

Dr. Gay enjoys helping others by making their feet feel better. She knows what works, what doesn’t and is focused on non-surgical alternatives whenever possible.

Dr. Gay graduated with an undergraduate degree from Southern Oregon State College in 1991. She went on to earn her degree as Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1995. Dr. Gay then moved to Albuquerque where she completed a three year surgical residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Following her residency program, Dr. Gay finished her formal medical education with a one year fellowship at Lovelace Medical Center.

Dr. Gay began her practice in Albuquerque in 1999. She joined Dr. FitzPatrick a few years later and has been with ABQ Podiatry ever since. Dr. Gay’s patients enjoy her attentive nature, empathy and compassion - all of which are delivered upon a foundation of quality medical care.

Dr. Gay is also a multi-sports enthusiast. She understands the physical and mental challenges that go along with injuries and can relate to an athletes’ desire to “get back to training.” As a competitive triathlete in the summer (swimming, biking and running) and an expert snow skier in the winter, Dr. Gay understands biomechanics first hand. She enjoys exercising, walking and hiking in and around New Mexico, along with taking time to smell the flowers with her husband and young daughter. Their two dogs, three cats and 10 wild turtles all keep her active and engaged.

Dr. Gay is a triathlete, competing in running, swimming, and biking.  In addition, she’s an expert skier which she enjoys in winter.


Gary D. Prant, DPM

New to Albuquerque but not to podiatry is a phrase that describes Doctor Gary Prant. Dr. Prant is a respected, experienced podiatrist who practiced in Austin Texas for 36 years. When his wife accepted the position as Executive Director of the Albuquerque Jewish Community Center he transitioned his practice to a group of young podiatrists and joined her in the Land of Enchantment.

Doctor Prant had a distinguished career in Texas and looks forward to serving New Mexico. He received numerous awards including the award as one of “America’s Top Podiatrists” every year for the past ten years! Dr. Prant served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Podiatric Medical Association and served 2 terms as president of the Travis County Podiatric Medical Society. He is Board-Certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery however now his practice is limited to nonsurgical treatment of foot problems and office-based minimal incision surgery. Dr. Prant has special training in foot manipulation. He has developed his own orthotic which costs under $100 and often performs better than $500 orthotics. He also has expertise in Imaging and has brought the technology of moving digital video x-rays to ABQ podiatry. For some time he envisioned himself as a YouTube star and has one video with over 100,000 views. As he gets established in Albuquerque he is excited about making more instructional videos at ABQ podiatry .
